Chapter Forty Four: Optical Thread

Imagine yourself as living a house.
God comes in to rebuild that house. At first,
perhaps, you can understand what He is doing.
He is getting the drains right and stopping
the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that
those jobs needed doing and so you are
not surprised. But presently He starts knocking
the house about in a way that hurts abominably
and does not seem to make any sense.
What on earth is He up to?
The explanation is that He is building a
different house from the one you thought of --
throwing out a new wing here, putting on
an extra floor there, running up towers,
making courtyards. You thought you were being
made into a decent little cottage: but He is
building a palace. He intends to come
and live in it Himself.

C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

It was a sigh of relief for the Spacecraft Yard.

But not quite anew.

The long-standing debate on the efficacy of the Needle Bases have entered its next phase in the experimentation process, which is an all important triumph that took five lightyears to make. It was the focal point of the main agenda within the Spacecraft Yard in trying to understand these optic blades, and attempt to use its fundamentals to apply its mechanical capability to the development of new space gear and vehicles.

They started calling these new material discovery as the optical threads, an important usage of the mechanical belts to increase the performance of its most expensive speed wagons while upgrading the safety and integrity of its torque and steering efficacy. The initial phase of development is now coming to fruition, and a second round is expected to roll out in the coming days.

But there is something wrong (still) with the main prototype of this discovery, and the problem naturally pertains to the further development of the Needle Bases to make it stronger and more steady in space to outlast external forces; it is also the many parts of the engine that it needed to withstand on full capacity. Despite the scientific certainty to the optical properties of these optical threads, more efforts must be invested in the improvement of future manufacture of the Needle Bases.

This is where the major conflict lies so far.

The Needle Bases, being a strong component of the Ministry of Space Territory's security and defense, are protected by the Oath of Secrecy and Confidentiality and other lawful actions that may jeopardize the patent general pertaining to the most efficient weaponry and its full protection, and that any bill that will seek to alter certain parts of its mechanism must be introduced by the Chancellor of the Constitution himself in order to authorize any change in the status quo, upon the advice and consent of the two-thirds of the High Chamber of the Republics.

Many have expressed grievances that opening the Needle Bases to this certain manipulation at this time will expose the Ministry into greater harm, especially in dealing with the Congress of the world of Fantasy seeking to deregulate most of its planetary and dimensional routes into a devolved administration, which the Ministry of Space Territory cannot allow to happen in due course.

However, the Spacecraft Yard's mandate is to improve transportation vessels in order to weather these slowly vanishing trade routes, and the only valuable way to move forward is to support the development of the optical threads by trying to change the manufactured standard of the said Needle Bases in question.

In order to appease these many adverse concerns, the Spacecraft Yard was proposing to limit the exploitation of the Needle Bases by enacting a statute that would then govern its experimentation in order to keep its blueprint an airtight secret, still.

The debate goes on as further testing of these optical threads will require the Spacecraft Yard to import more products produced by the Spindle of Hate, beyond that of the allowable legal limit imposed by law.
