Chapter Three: The Space Police and Home Authority

The 2,005th Ministry of Space has been sworn into office a few lightyear's ago, when the current President of the Planetary Co-Op and his Galactic Party won the majority of the Delegation's seats, while he unseated the Stellar Party's dominance for the first time in 60 lightyears. Ever since that historic occasion, he tried to reform the Ministry of Space by appointing the most capable for the post, and while this had made him popular among the many Stellar Sectors, the President of the Planetary Co-Op himself was a weak leader.

As President of the Planetary Co-Op, he is also the Space Chief Minister, which means that he leads the Cabinet and the government in general. Since its inception from the beginning of time, the Ministry of Space has grown into the many offices needed to govern the planetary systems, and keep the Cooperation's orbits and space highways in place.

One of the more important Cabinet position within the Ministry is the Space Police and Home Authority, an elite force responsible for the peace and security within the many galaxies of the territories of the Planetary Co-Op. The Authority is headed by the Superintendent of the Police, who, by convention, is always awarded to the most capable dueler within the ranks, and is represented by the Speaker of the Home Planet responsible to the Delegation during question time.

The Space Police is a far esteemed members of the civil service. They are very accomplished in combat, and easily recognizable by the weapons they yield, called the Needle Base. The Needle Base is a retractable optic sword consisting of a handle, a guard, and a pointed top resembling a needle (from which its name was derived) where the optics are connected to the base of the weapon. Once the pointed tip of the Needle Base protrudes on command to reveal the optic that serves as its blade, it is best to assume that they are very, very sharp.

The Needles (as they are colloquially known) are exclusive weaponry only available to the elite forces who were specially trained by the Special Agency for Tactics. They are awarded only in consideration of talent, training, and by a special decree passed by the Upper Chamber.

As Head of State, the current Chancellor of the Constitution has inducted far less Needles than most of his predecessors, and this has been taken with a grain of salt. The Space Police, after all, has taken an oath to defend and preserve the Constitution like the several Republics, and that this move has been vaguely interpreted by the electorate to mean that there is a clear intention to reform the elite forces in the future.

This remains to be speculation.

Today, the Superintendent of the Police has just received distress signals from the outer rim of the Planetary Highway known as the Hedgeringe, and the Space Police will be officially asked to investigate the matter.
